Kelly Ludeking’s “Burnt Cube”

Thus far, I’ve been preoccupied with the technical aspects of this project, and, I suppose, that’s understandable. I tend to be the kind of person who needs to gather a lot of information and spend time digesting it before I can make a decision. While this doesn’t always apply to my creative work (I typically wouldn’t, for example, spend a lot of time researching and listening to clarinet pieces by other composers before I wrote my own), it certainly applies to matters involving technology. But it also occurs to me, even at this point in the project, that the look and feel of this installation will be significant in its overall success and impact. Hence, I’ve brought local artist Kelly Ludeking on board. Not sure exactly what direction the design will go, but his work with various metals (which I’ve seen at various art shows and public exhibitions in and around Decorah) leads me to think that he’s a great fit for this project. The fact that he’s also a tinker-er type with electronics will also prove handy, I think!
